Green Economy Framework & Model for Malaysia (Mac – Dec 2025; Moxy Hotel Putrajaya)

253

Dr. Illisriyani Ismail from CPR, USM has been appointed as an external consultant by UNDP Malaysia and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) (from Mac – Decemeber 2025), in partnership with KnowlEdge Srl, to support the development of a Macroeconomic Framework for the Green Economy and the Green Economy Model (GEM) for Malaysia. This work has been carried out in close collaboration with the Kementerian Ekonomi (Ministry of Economy, Malaysia) and UNDP offices in Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei Darussalam.

  • Malaysia already has a strong policy foundation to advance the Green Economy, particularly in enhancing economic competitiveness.
  • Opportunities remain to further strengthen areas such as just transition and natural capital protection.
  • With these enhancements, Malaysia holds the potential to position itself as a regional leader in sustainable development.

The Green Economy Framework will serve as a strategic guide to address policy inconsistencies and trade-offs from siloed planning. Complementing this, the Green Economy Model using System Dynamics Modelling approach will provide policymakers with an integrated tool to design coherent, future-ready strategies aligned with national sustainability priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
