Field Trip – Campbell Street, Georgetown, Penang 15–19 November 2023

The Centre for Policy Research (CPR), Universiti Sains Malaysia, in collaboration with the University of Taipei (UTAIPEI), organized a field trip program to Campbell Street, Georgetown, Penang from 15 to 19 November 2023. The program was held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and around heritage sites in Georgetown, Penang.
This was an intensive short program where selected students were introduced to Malaysian architecture and culture, specifically around Campbell Street, Georgetown, Penang. The program was directed by Associate Professor Dr. Goh Soo Khoon (CPR), with assistance from Associate Professor Dr. Khoo Suet Leng, a lecturer from the School of Social Sciences.
Among the activities conducted, participants visited the Architecture Master Studio, School of Housing, Building and Planning (HBP), USM, where a presentation and academic discussion were delivered by Dr. Suriati Binti Rahman, Chairperson of the Urban and Regional Planning Program.
Students also toured the campus on foot, enjoying the scenery and observing the buildings within the main campus.
CPR also organized a briefing and discussion with participants at CPR related to the program, delivered by Dr. Sazlina Salleh, Deputy Director of CPR.
Subsequently, students visited the Georgetown World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) for a briefing on building planning, followed by a site visit around Campbell Street.
