THE LAUNCHING OF GCC@USM AT EASTIN HOTEL PENANG ON 30th NOVEMBER 2021

GCC@USM was officially launched at Eastin Hotel, Penang on 30th November 2021.

The auspicious occasion was officiated by the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia by Professor Dato' Dr. Faisal Rafiq bin Mahamd Adikan.

The event was live broadcasted online via School of Educational Studies YouTube channel and was witnessed by the funder, APCEIU in Korea.

ENGLISH ONLINE WORKSHOP FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS

On 21stNovember 2021, an Online Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Workshop for Preservice Teachers was held for 20 second year TESOL students. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the concepts of GCED to the pre-service teachers. As these second-year students will become teachers in future, it is pertinent that they realize the importance of gaining knowledge on GCED. Thus, it is hoped that this workshop will enlighten them on what are GCED concepts and how these concepts could be integrated into their lessons. The workshop used the online mode via WebEx platform which started from 0900 to 1400. Active learning and participant-centred activities were used throughout the workshop to promote deeper understanding of the concepts.
 
OBJECTIVES OF WORKSHOP
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to :
a.Explain the concepts of GCED in general.
b.Map the GCED concepts to SDGs.
c.Produce an explainer video that discusses the elements of GCED concepts in an English song that could be used in their class.
 
 
  
 

ONLINE HISTORY WORKSHOP FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS

Introduction:

Teachers are the catalysts for the application of positive values in individual students who willbecome the future society. To pursue harmony and peace in community life, as emphasized by GCED, values in shaping a harmonious society must first and foremost be nurtured through the teaching and learning process. Teachers who understand and are responsive to the importance of instilling these values in future generations can help ensure the success of the GCED mission. As a result, the role of teachers is critical in this regard.

Aims
This workshop was held to introduce pre-service teachers to the concept of GCED and the elements contained within it. Teachers from the core subjects of History were chosen to participate in this course as an introductory program. History is a core subject required for students in Malaysian schools. Thus, teachers' knowledge of these GCED elements adds value to the teaching delivery process.

Objectives of workshop:
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
a.Explain the concept of GCED in general.
b. Produce an explainer video that incorporate GCED components into the teaching of History topic.

Participants
Twenty preservice teachers majoring in history took part in this workshop.
