Completed a research internship at the Centre for Policy Research, Universiti Sains Malaysia, in collaboration with the Department of Oceanography, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), focusing on science-informed marine governance in Penang.
Conducted field-based ecological assessments of seagrass beds, mangrove ecosystems, and intertidal biodiversity at Middle Bank and Pulau Gazumbo. The internship also included site visits to ongoing land reclamation areas in Penang to assess their spatial extent and potential ecological impacts on surrounding coastal systems.
Currently working on a policy brief to develop a science-based zoning framework for Pulau Gazumbo, integrating ecological observations, blue carbon considerations, and ecosystem modelling efforts. The objective is to support evidence-driven recommendations for the Penang State Government regarding sustainable coastal development and the careful evaluation of large-scale land reclamation initiatives.
This experience strengthened my expertise in ecosystem modelling, blue carbon science, and translating ecological research into actionable policy guidance.
